South Florida residents should look to local and state resources for information on disaster relief and recovery, be it ongoing curfews, debris clean up, financial assistance, or the resumption of normal municipal services.
Florida Disaster Legal Services Hotline is now available for Hurricane Irma survivors in Florida who cannot pay for an attorney: 1-866-550-2929. The hotline operates through a partnership between The Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division, the American Bar Association (ABA) Young Lawyers Division, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Clients seeking assistance with replacement of Food Stamps must print and complete the Florida Department of Children and Families Food Stamp Replacement Authorization Form (provide link to PDF form) and FAX the form to (954) 267- 4055. The snap case number and client signature must be on the form. Be sure to keep a fax transmittal receipt for your records. Individuals may also visit the DCF offices at 1400 West Commercial Blvd, Fort Lauderdale FL, 33309. We will assist eligible clients in faxing the forms here at the Legal Aid Campus in Plantation at 491 N. State Road 7.

Customer service representatives are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time to assist claimants. For DUA claims information call 1-800-204-2418 and choose option 2 to speak to a customer service representative.

IRS Filing Extensions for Tax Returns
The Internal Revenue Service has extended until January 31, 2018, for any tax return, extended tax return or tax payment that was due on or after September 4, 2017. This applies to persons who live in in or whose business is located in Broward, Charlotte, Clay, Collier, Duval, Flagler, Hillsborough, Lee, Manatee, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Palm Beach, Pinellas, Putnam, Sarasota and St. Johns.
