Now, more than ever, legal aid programs are being stretched beyond capacity. Even with tremendous budgetary constraints, Broward legal aid programs are providing free civil legal assistance to more than 10,000 people annually. This includes the homeless, the elderly, veterans, victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, and children in foster care or in need of special education. More than 120 local non-profit organizations refer people in need to Broward legal aid. As valiant as the effort to maximize service and cut costs has been, the demand for those in need of legal representation is not being met. We need your help!
The solution is simple. There are more than 10,000 attorneys in Broward County. Currently, there is only 1 legal aid attorney for every 5,000 people living in poverty. If even a fraction of Broward’s lawyers would volunteer or make a contribution, justice for all would be more than just a lofty ideal. It would be reality.
The average #GivingTuesday donation across charities nationwide last year was $140. While no gift is too small, we are calling on members of the community to get a jump on the competition and “raise the bar” by encouraging a minimum donation of $150 to legal aid programs in Broward this #GivingTuesday.
Make the gift that will transform your life, as well as the lives of so many others.
