Learn about the life-changing work Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida, Inc. (CCLA) does in our community. In this video you will hear about Miss Walker, a senior citizen, who went blind later in life. She worked for many years and paid into the system. Now, she could no longer care for herself. Given her inability to work and lack of support, she sought government benefits to assist her. However, since she never became a citizen, she could not qualify for these benefits. Without anyone to help, not knowing what to do, she contacted CCLA.
CCLA knew that although Ms. Walker had been a legal resident, she needed to become a naturalized U.S. Citizen. CCLA applying for Miss Walker’s naturalization was a pivotal step to improve her circumstances. CCLA represented Mis Walker throughout the citizenship application process. This included preparing and submitting the application, collecting required documents, recording information for her to listen to since she could not read, and representing her during her citizenship interview. Learn about how CCLA Attorneys advocated for Miss Walker throughout the process. Spoiler: With CCLA’s advocacy, Miss Walker became a U.S. Citizen and was able to receive stabilizing benefits!
