Sofia* is a young adult living with her mother who has cancer. Their only income is Sofia’s SSI benefits. When the Social Security Administration decided Sofia was no longer disabled, and therefore stopped her SSI benefits, she was referred CCLA for assistance. Sofia was unable to tell time or identify coins but Social Security had determined that she could work at a regular full time job without accommodations.
CCLA attorney Courtney Magnus took this case with only two weeks to prepare before the Social Security hearing. With the assistance of CCLA paralegal Angela Taylor, they were able to get all of Sofia’s the records filed with the court prior to her hearing. The judge was not an easy judge, but ultimately Sofia’s SSI benefits were approved once again.
