Story of Justice – Jean’s Safety Secured Through Collaboration

A call from a concerned community member led CCLA to assist Jean, an older adult who appeared to be experiencing abuse and exploitation in her own home. What followed was a complex and deeply sensitive matter requiring patience, compassion, and thoughtful legal advocacy.

Jean faced significant communication challenges, requiring CCLA staff to adapt every interaction to ensure her wishes, safety, and dignity remained at the center of the representation. CCLA attorneys and advocates conducted multiple in-person visits and coordinated closely with care providers and other professionals to assess the client’s needs and legal options.

As the matter unfolded, additional concerns emerged regarding the people surrounding Jean’s safety  and the stability of her living situation. CCLA worked collaboratively with community partners and law enforcement while carefully balancing the need for protection with Jean’s right to independence and self-determination.

Through strategic legal advocacy and ongoing support, CCLA helped navigate the appropriate legal remedies to protect the client’s home and personal interests. Trusted individuals within the client’s support network also played an important role in helping ensure her long-term safety and stability.
