Ways to Help

Did you know that you are not entitled to representation for civil legal cases? The majority of those in need of legal assistance go without legal assistance due to lack of resources. Help us close the justice gap for people in our community.

  • Low-income Americans do not get any or enough legal help for 92% of their substantial civil legal problems.
  • 3 in 4 (74%) low-income households experienced 1+ civil legal problems in the past year.
  • Broward County has an estimated two million residents
  • Over 15% of people in Broward live in poverty and many more cannot afford legal help
  • Collier County has an estimated 400,000 residents
  • About 11% of people in Collier live in poverty and many more cannot afford legal help
  • There are just 1.7 civil legal aid attorneys serving every 10,000 Floridians, compared to the national average of 2.8 civil legal aid attorneys serving every 10,000 impoverished Americans.
  • Florida leads the nation in ID theft and fraud among the poor and elderly
  • Statistically, more than half of victims of crime do not have resources to receive legal advice, counsel, support, or representation.
  • Approximately 15% of Broward residents lack health insurance; 44% of our clients are uninsured
  • About 50 million Americans have household incomes below 125% of the poverty threshold – including more than 15 million children and nearly 8 million seniors.

Our work would not be possible without the generous support of our donors.
