Wanda is Left with a Broken Finger and Emotionally Fragile

Background

Although their relationship was brief, Wanda endured a physically abusive relationship with Jim throughout. During one incident, Jim threw a fork at Wanda with such force that it became lodged in her hand which resulted in a broken finger and stitches. This incident not only left Wanda with thousands of dollars in medical bills but emotionally fragile.

Legal Assistance

At some point, Wanda was able to get her dog, Ace, certified as an emotional support animal. But soon thereafter, in a fit of rage, Jim attacked Wanda while trying to destroy Ace’s emotional support animal certificate. This is the incident that finally led Wanda to seek out Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida (CCLA,) seeking representation for an Injunction and a Divorce.

Following a contentious hearing in which Jim was represented by counsel, Wanda received a Final Judgment of Injunction until further order of the court. After CCLA filed for divorce on her behalf, an intense Mediation took place, ultimately resulting in Jim providing Wanda a lump sum settlement to cover all of the medical expenses she incurred as a result of his domestic violence.

Why it Matters

Before the Final Hearing, the lump sum payment was paid in full, and shortly thereafter a Final Judgment of Dissolution of Marriage was issued. Wendy is now free to begin the next chapter of her life with her newly gained independence, her maiden name restored, and her debts resolved.
