Background
Michaela was going through the most difficult challenge of her life – she was undergoing treatment for breast cancer. However, that was not the only challenge in her life. Michaela’s husband, Rick, had been arrested for battery and domestic violence against her during their brief two-year marriage. On top of everything, Michaela had recently become unemployed due to COVID.
Legal Assistance
As a young woman, Michaela just wanted to be free of this man and pursue her wellbeing to the best of her abilities. Fortunately, Michaela and Rick had no children born of the marriage. Nevertheless, Michaela was intent on pursuing her independence, getting her maiden name restored, and clearing the title to her car, so she reached out to Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida for assistance.
Why it Matters
Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida filed for dissolution of marriage on Michaela’s behalf. Rick was served and didn’t bother to respond. Within two months, the case moved forward to the final hearing, and Michaela, who has been through so much, was finally free and able to move forward with her life.
