Board Member Profile: Berbeth Foster
In January of 2022, Berbeth Foster was appointed to the Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida (CCLA) Board by the Broward County Commission. Ms. Foster is the Senior Staff Attorney at Community Justice Project. She previously served as the Lead Consumer Rights Attorney in the Senior Citizen Law Project of Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida.
Berbeth brings a decade of experience litigating and defending low-income populations in consumer rights matters including mortgage foreclosure, debt collection, fraud and Chapter 13 bankruptcy. In her time at CCLA, Berbeth helped her clients in obtaining over half a million dollars in debt relief.
We asked Berbeth what she looks forward to the most in her new role, she says, “As a former employee of CCLA, I know the dedication and hard work that goes into representing some of the most underserved residents of Broward County. I am proud to have dedicated over a decade of my legal career to CCLA and being a Board member affords me the unique opportunity to continue my commitment to an organization I care deeply about.”
Berbeth’s wealth of knowledge in the area of reverse mortgage foreclosure defense has led to several speaking engagements at the National Consumer Law Conference. She now focuses her time at Community Justice Project representing a vast array of grassroots organizations that primarily fight for racial and economic justice. Berbeth works with numerous statewide and national coalitions that advocate for housing as a human right, reimagining public safety and climate justice, to name a few.
Berbeth earned her law degree from the University of Miami School of Law. While at the University of Miami, she was a Dean’s Honor Scholar and was named a Bill Colson Scholarship recipient. Soon after graduation, Berbeth was awarded a University of Miami Foreclosure Defense fellowship to work at Legal Aid Service of Broward County. That fellowship opportunity at Legal Aid Service of Broward County led her to a position at CCLA. Berbeth is a member of the Florida Bar, American Bar Association, Broward County Bar Association, and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
