Pro Bono Attorney Spotlight: James Bishop

Pro Bono Attorney Spotlight: James Bishop

James Bishop has been an active volunteer attorney with Legal Aid’s Broward Lawyers Care (BLC) for the past two years, during which he has handled seven pro bono cases. His pro bono work has benefitted individuals in need, primarily in the area of housing. He recently resolved a lien foreclosure case brought by a homeowners’ association against a client. Thanks to James’ assistance the Court disposed of the case, saving the client more than 12,0000 dollars in alleged debt.

James, a second-year attorney, graduated from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri in May 2020. Upon being admitted to the Florida Bar, he worked for a small litigation firm in Miramar, Florida.

“I chose a small general litigation firm after law school to obtain broad exposure to multiple areas of law. I could be hands-on with the cases and personally interact with clients. At larger firms, first-year associates do not generally obtain that exposure.”

In his first year of practice, James co-chaired six (6) trials, drafted and filed a successful appeal to the Fourth District Court of Appeals, argued dozens of motions before the courts of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, and was entrusted to litigate cases from inception to judgment.

Prior to law school, James served in the Air Force as a Korean Cryptologic Linguist, worked as a project manager (former PMP,) and as a compliance analyst in the healthcare industry. James also holds a Masters Degree in public administration.
